Duck Walk Vineyards
This award-winning vineyard is housed in a Normandy Chateau style flagship building in Water Mill, New York. The new location, on the North Fork of Long Island in Southold (called “Duck Walk North,”) includes roughly 30 acres of Sauvignon Blanc grape vines alone, Vidal Ice Wine (wines made from grapes frozen on the vine) and tasting rooms, with both locations encompassing some 140 acres. Duck Walk North, 44535 Main Rd., Southold, 631.765.3500; Duck Walk South, 231 Montauk Highway, Water Mill, 631.726.7555
Jason Damianos, the late owner of Jason’s Vineyard, densely spaced his vines on North Fork, purposely reducing overall grape yield to intensify the flavors of his wines. His vineyard continues to produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Wine tastings take place around an Argonaut-shaped bar (with sails!), to go along with the vineyard’s homage to the Greek legend of Jason and the Argonauts. 1785 Main Rd., Jamesport, 631.238.5801
An environmentally conscious vineyard, this winery uses a large wind turbine to power at least 80% of its operations. More than 20 different wines from 17 varieties of grapes are produced here, including two created to honor the late Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos, the founder of the vineyard. Dr. Dan’s Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, both from 2014, are made from grapes of the vineyard blocks that he liked to walk through. 37645 Main Rd., Peconic, 631.734.6200
Osprey’s Dominion Vineyard
This vineyard uses the naturally complex farming soil of its location and minimal human interference with the grape-growing process to produce the best wines possible. Among the varietals grown here are Riesling, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Verdot, Merlot and Carmenere. The spacious tasting room overlooks Osprey’s Dominion’s vines and lawn. 44075 Main Rd., Peconic, 631.765.6188
Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard
The idyllic ambience and welcoming atmosphere of this vineyard perfectly emulates the hospitable environment of wine country—literally. Baiting Hollow uses organic compost and natural fertilizers in its soil, leading to aromatic grapes that are turned into delicious wines. Award-winning wines include Sweet Isis, Sam’s Legacy (Reserve Merlot), Red Velvet, Riesling and others. The property’s tasting area is a farmhouse built in 1861 that has been fully renovated. 2114 Sound Ave., Calverton, 631.369.0100
This premium winery takes great care in the vineyard’s management and winemaking to produce deeply concentrated flavors for its wine list. In addition to Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Vignetta Meritage, Vineyard 48 produces NOFO Red Sangria and NOFO Peach Wine, for those who enjoy even fruitier offerings. Whether you’re new to wine, or an aficionado, Vineyard 48 has something for everyone. 18910 Route 48, Cutchogue, 631.734.5200
